After a long 20 years, the U.S. women’s hockey now managed to corner a gold medal. The viewers that day have witnessed a thrilling end of a women’s ice hockey match played between the United States and Canada on Wednesday night which began at 11:10 ET. The U.S. beats Canada by 3-2 points. As per the report, Jocelyne Lamoureux-Davidson scored a goal in the sixth round of the shootout which helped the team to win the first gold medal in the event since 1998.
Initially, the United Start the game with the 1-0 lead but the team didn’t manage to keep their lead and quickly fell behind with a score of 2-1. The situation was like, the team was moving toward another defeat. Within 25 seconds to play in the first period, Hilary Knight deflected in a shot by Sidney Morin which gave the team an early advantage. After that, Canada tried hard to disrupt the gameplay of the Americans but failed to score a point. However, Canada tied it early in the second and then in the third period, they tied the score at 2-2 on Monique Lamoureux-Morando’s goal with 6:21 left to play in the third. After two-period, the score was 2-1.
In the third period, the U.S, got penalty shot via which Gigi Marvin scored a point. Both the team played very hard it was like they were desperate for points. But, Canadian power play over the last 95 seconds was not able to get a goal. It all got changed in the shootout. After five rounds the teams were tied with two goals. Then, in six round, Lamoureaux-Davidson scored a goal for the U.S. On the others side, team’s Maddie Rooney stooped a shot by Canadian player Meghan Acosta. That’s it.
It may be noted that, except the United States and Canada, no team has ever won gold. In 1998, the United States won the gold medal in Nagano Games.
