As Max Verstappen prepares for one of the most prestigious races on the Formula 1 calendar, the conversation extends beyond the challenging twists of Monte Carlo. Before the engines roar to life this weekend, the Red Bull Racing driver is already making headlines—not for his on-track prowess, but for his latest luxurious acquisition: a stunning superyacht.

Verstappen has recently taken possession of a striking 33-meter Mangusta GranSport 33, which signifies more than just opulence. With an estimated cost exceeding $15 million, this yacht symbolizes the evolution of Verstappen’s image beyond the racing circuits.

A Floating Fortress: ‘Unleash The Lion’

Insider and seasoned photographer Kym Illman provided insights into the lavish vessel, which Verstappen commissioned two years ago from the Italian shipyard Overmarine. The yacht boasts five opulent bedrooms and is aptly named Unleash the Lion—a title that resonates with Verstappen’s personal brand, also reflected in the initials on his private jets.

According to Illman, the base model of this stunning vessel starts at around $12 million, but with Verstappen’s customizations, the final cost likely approaches $15 million. He also highlighted the substantial upkeep costs, which can exceed $1.2 million annually, a figure that places ownership in a league reserved for the elite in motorsport.

While many of his contemporaries choose to dock in the bustling harbor of Monaco, Verstappen opts for the quieter Cap d’Ail, a location that affords him the luxury of privacy, away from the notorious Grand Prix buzz. It’s also conveniently near the residences of numerous F1 colleagues, including Verstappen’s own home.

Though some may perceive the yacht as a mere luxury item, Illman sees it as part of a broader narrative. He remarked, “It’s part of a brand now. Max isn’t just winning on Sundays; he’s crafting an image that stretches from the track to the Riviera.”

As the Monaco Grand Prix approaches, Verstappen’s impressive arrival along the coast has already sparked conversations. Whether navigating tight chicanes or cruising the Mediterranean, the reigning champion is undeniably steering his own narrative—on his own terms.
