Danica Patrick is no longer avoiding the political spotlight. This Memorial Day weekend, the former NASCAR and IndyCar driver caused quite a stir by proudly donning a “Make America Great Again” hat while out on the golf course.
Her Instagram post garnered significant attention, not just for the iconic red hat, but as a clear indication of Patrick’s transition from an apolitical athlete to a vocal conservative advocate.
“I love this country,” she expressed, accompanying her message with appreciation for military personnel and recognition of a memorable Indy 500 weekend. The post not only served as a tribute but also signified her commitment to her political beliefs, despite the ensuing criticism.
From The Track To The Political Arena
In a recent conversation with former NCAA swimmer and conservative commentator Riley Gaines, Patrick revealed that she rekindled her interest in politics post-retirement. She admitted, “It was only a little over a year ago that I went to my first ever political event, which was AmFest here in Phoenix, Charlie Kirk’s big event,” despite not even knowing who Kirk was at the time. Until then, she had intentionally distanced herself from political news since 2018.
This change began at AmFest, leading to her eventual expression of patriotism, which sparked considerable backlash. Patrick recounted, “It was a divisive comment to so many and grabbed a lot of attention, which was ridiculous,” reflecting on her experience navigating newfound political territory.

This experience has opened the door to various media appearances, including interviews with Tucker Carlson and guest segments on Charlie Kirk’s show. “Well, I guess I am in politics now,” she remarked with humor in light of her newfound advocacy.
Despite criticism, particularly after sporting MAGA attire, Patrick remains resolute. Her message over Memorial Day was deeply personal, encapsulating her sentiment: “Grateful for the men and women who have sacrificed so much to protect the United States of America. Thank you,” firmly articulating her beliefs.
Transitioning from silence to active engagement, Patrick is now an influential voice in political discourse—and it seems she intends to remain vocally engaged in these discussions moving forward.
