Jemele Hill recently lent her voice to the ongoing debate surrounding the Olympic boxing situation involving Algerian boxer Imane Khelif.

Khelif achieved a swift victory against Italian boxer Angela Carini, ending the match after just 46 seconds. This decision led to intense scrutiny, with many critics calling out the International Olympic Committee for permitting a transgender athlete to compete in women’s boxing.

While Khelif faced disqualification at the 2023 World Championships, she met all eligibility criteria for the 2024 Olympics. Nonetheless, public discourse continued to question her gender identity.

Following the controversy, Carini reached out to Khelif, expressing remorse for the unwanted attention her actions had caused.

Hill’s reaction to Carini’s apology was pointed, suggesting that more individuals owed Khelif contrition. “A lot of people need to apologize. I hope Khelif sues some people over their reckless remarks,” she noted. “All this story did was expose ugliness, hatred, and transphobia. As Carini admitted here, she quit because she was upset she was gonna get her [expletive] whooped, and other folks turned it into something else.”

Fast-forward to 2025, and dramatic shifts have occurred.

Khelif appeared unstoppable at the Paris Olympics, but a leaked medical document suggested otherwise. Initially reported by 3 Wire Sports, the findings indicated “abnormal” results, affirming a “male karyotype” through chromosome analysis.

These tests were conducted at Dr. Lal PathLabs in New Delhi, an institution accredited by the American College of Pathologists and certified by the Swiss-based International Organization for Standardization.

The emergence of this medical report arrived shortly after World Boxing mandated that Khelif undergo sex screening to maintain her eligibility in female competitions going forward.
