Terron Armstead, the standout offensive tackle for the Miami Dolphins, has announced his retirement after an impressive 12-year career in the NFL.
As reported by Ian Rapoport from NFL Network, Armstead is stepping away from the game just shy of his 34th birthday. Over the past three seasons, he made a significant impact in Miami after dedicating the first nine years of his career to the New Orleans Saints.
Selected in the third round of the 2013 NFL Draft as the 75th overall pick, Armstead was a five-time Pro Bowl selection and earned Second-team All-Pro honors in 2018. He was instrumental in protecting the blindside of quarterback Drew Brees for the majority of his tenure with the Saints before transitioning to safeguard Tua Tagovailoa in Miami.
Despite his accolades, Armstead’s career was often marred by injuries. He never exceeded 15 games in a season and was sidelined for at least six games in half of his twelve professional years.

Armstead’s absence was felt as he missed four games in 2022, seven in 2023, and two in 2024. Yet, he played a crucial role in Miami’s resurgence under head coach Mike McDaniel, contributing to the team’s consecutive playoff appearances in the last two seasons.
Additionally, Armstead was pivotal to the Saints’ success during Brees’ final years, helping the team claim four consecutive NFC South titles from 2017 to 2020. Notably, he was part of the squad that advanced to the dramatic 2018 NFC Championship Game, a contest famously remembered for its controversial ending against the Los Angeles Rams.
Dolphins Must Find Terron Armstead’s Replacement ASAP
In light of Armstead’s retirement, Dolphins General Manager Chris Grier faces the urgent task of finding a capable replacement. Given Tua Tagovailoa’s ongoing injury concerns stemming from his history with concussions, it’s anticipated that Grier will prioritize selecting an offensive tackle early in the upcoming draft, unless he secures a major acquisition through trade or free agency.
