Max Scherzer Responds To Challenge From Former Teammate Trea Turner

Max Scherzer is gearing up for a demanding 2025 season donning a Toronto Blue Jays jersey. The veteran pitcher has signed a one-year contract with the team and is determined to prove his worth in hopes of securing an extension beyond this season. A former Cy Young Award winner, Scherzer was quick to share his thoughts on the new Automatic Ball-Strike System implemented in Major League Baseball.

In a recent matchup against the Philadelphia Phillies, Scherzer faced off against his former teammate Trea Turner. The Phillies’ slugger playfully teased Scherzer by challenging his first pitch, a clear strike that was recorded by the umpire. In a lighthearted move, Scherzer decided to play along, intentionally calling for a challenge during the at-bat.

After the game, Scherzer reflected on this friendly banter.

“Just some good heat going on behind the scenes there. Trea and I, we’re good friends, so we’ll have a laugh. They’re just messing with me. There was a lot of stuff going on behind the scenes there. I can’t take these at-bats seriously. These are practice games going against good friends of mine. Too many good stories together and Trea is obviously one of my favorite teammates of all time,” Scherzer remarked.

Having played side by side for seven seasons with the Washington Nationals and Los Angeles Dodgers, Scherzer and Turner have built a strong friendship over their years in the league.

Max Scherzer Aiming for a Strong Comeback with the Blue Jays

Scherzer is focused on making a significant comeback during his time with the Blue Jays. Throughout his career, health issues have occasionally plagued him, and his performance with the Texas Rangers in 2024 reflected that struggle.

After returning from the injured list, Scherzer managed a 2-4 record alongside a 3.95 ERA. Despite these challenges, he celebrated a World Series victory with the Rangers and aims to replicate that success with the Blue Jays. This season is pivotal for Scherzer, as strong performances could pave the way for a contract extension.

The Blue Jays are optimistic about making a playoff run in 2025, while concerns loom among Yankees fans regarding the pitching of Marcus Stroman.
