Shortly after expressing concerns about the “negativity” prevalent in national sports media, LeBron James declared that he would be stepping away from social media for a while.

His farewell post garnered a multitude of reactions, although they were not entirely the responses the four-time NBA champion might have anticipated.

While some users on social media offered their support, encouraging James to take all the time he needs, others speculated whether his exit was linked to potential “legal troubles.” Several pointed to Diddy and the various lawsuits he is currently facing.

“Are you going to a Diddy Party?” one user inquired on X, the platform formerly known as Twitter. Many others echoed similar thoughts in their comments on social media.

Not all responses were tied to Diddy or other controversies; some critics accused James of seeking attention, predicting he would return to social media in a few hours or days.

“LeBron James is off of X? Christmas came early this year,” one individual remarked upon hearing the news.

Regardless of his reasons for stepping back, this isn’t the first time James has taken a hiatus from social media. He previously did so in 2015 while he was with the Cleveland Cavaliers.

James shared a message on X on April 18, 2015, stating, “Zero dark thirty-23 activated #StriveForGreatness,” following the 2014-15 regular season.

Less than a day later, James and the Cavaliers began their Eastern Conference playoff series against the Celtics, winning that series in four games.

The playoffs continued with James and the Cavaliers sweeping the Hawks in four games, leading to an NBA Finals matchup against Steph Curry and the Warriors.

The Finals commenced with the Warriors edging out the Cavaliers 108-100 in overtime. However, the Cavaliers responded strongly, winning two consecutive games to take the series lead before ultimately losing the title as the Warriors captured three in a row to clinch the championship.
