LeBron James became quite nostalgic when he was asked about a notable rival after the Lakers’ practice on Monday.
The Lakers superstar shared his thoughts on Golden State Warriors guard Stephen Curry in anticipation of their upcoming preseason games this week. James referred to the experience as “everything I dreamed of” while reflecting on their collaboration during the Paris Olympics.
Both James and Curry were key figures on a talented Team USA that excelled during this summer’s competition, finishing undefeated at 6-0 and securing its fifth consecutive gold medal.
The Lakers legend had impressive stats, averaging 14.2 points, 6.8 rebounds, 8.5 assists, and 1.3 steals per game, making him the oldest MVP in the tournament’s history.
Although the Golden State star faced challenges in the early stages, he bounced back, scoring 17 three-pointers in the last two matches to become Team USA’s top scorer.
The synergy between Curry and James sparked media speculation about a potential collaboration in the NBA. When asked about the chances of them playing together on an NBA team, James replied, “I have no idea.”
Curry also expressed his admiration for James during his appearance on “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert” last week. The Warriors star remarked that it was James who aided him in overcoming his shooting slump during the Olympic games:
“I actually remember after we played Puerto Rico in the pool-play round, I was doing an interview with one of the guys from the Bay Area and as he’s talking, he asked me the same question ‘What’s wrong with your shot? Are you worried about it?’ Yada yada. And positive self-talk came out. I was like ‘No, we’re winning. I know it’s going to come. I know a flurry is going to come.
“And then as soon as I said it, LeBron walks right behind me and is like ‘Damn right it is’ with his little baritone voice. And I’m like ‘Yeah, yeah, yeah. At first it caught me off guard because I still had to get used to liking that guy because of all our battles. And now we’re teammates and friends and it was definitely a confident boost. And at the end of the day, it came at the right time.”
