As he enters his ninth NFL season at 31 years of age, Prescott was set to finish the last year of his previous contract, which meant the 2024 season was expected to be a pivotal contract year.
This agreement follows the Cowboys’ prior move to extend star wide receiver CeeDee Lamb with a four-year deal valued at up to $136 million, finally concluding a summer-long holdout.
The contract agreements for Dak Prescott (four years, $240 million) and CeeDee Lamb (four years, $136 million) have reached exactly what many anticipated since March. Why did the Cowboys delay until the last minute? Was it just for the theatrics? 🤯 pic.twitter.com/RlIPRlrVZv

Looking at Prescott’s performance, since his selection in the fourth round of the 2016 NFL Draft, he has amassed 29,459 passing yards, along with 202 touchdowns and 74 interceptions, achieving a completion rate of 67% and a career quarterback rating of 99.0.
Ultimately, this contract might surprise some supporters, especially considering Prescott has faced criticism largely due to his past playoff performances, holding a postseason record of 2-5.
Last time the Dallas Cowboys played with Dak Prescott at the helm, we were trailing 27-0 as the number 2 seed in a home playoff game. Yet Dak’s reward is the biggest contract in NFL history.
