The off-the-field trouble for Jalen Carter that happened after his final game in college will not be going away anytime soon.
Eagles rookie Jalen Carter faces a lawsuit stemming from a car crash that killed his former Georgia teammate, Devin Willock.
Dave Willock Sr., Willock’s father, alleges Jalen Carter and Chandler LeCroy played important roles in the deadly crash that killed his son. He is suing several people tied to the incident and is seeking $40 million in damages.
Carter has already pleaded no contest to traffic violations after he was accused of racing in connection with the incident. The complaint also brings up the auto company he had ties with. Toppers, the strip club the group was said to have left after championship celebrations, is also listed in the lawsuit, Shehan Jeyarajah of CBS Sports reports.
It alleges Carter had a “pattern of excessive speeding” that the car dealership should have taken under consideration after multiple speeding tickets.
Carter was sentenced to 12 months probation, fined $1,000 and required to complete 80 hours of community service. He also must complete a state-approved driving course.
LeCroy’s — the UGA staffer who was driving the vehicle that crashed — blood alcohol level was more than twice the legal limit, according to a toxicology report.
According to court documents, more employees of UGA Athletic Association “who were aware of LeCroy’s driving problems and drinking on January 14, 2023, will be added as party defendants as discovery proceeds.”
In the claims against Carter, Willock’s attorneys allege that he unlawfully left the scene of the January crash and did not return until an hour and a half later when a coach summoned him back to the scene.
This is a lawsuit that won’t be finished for quite sometime and could possibly spill over into Carter’s rookie season with the Eagles.
