SoFi Stadium, home of the NFL’s Los Angeles Rams and Los Angeles Chargers, could be out of the running host the 2026 FIFA World Cup Final.
According to a report from The Times newspaper in London, England (h/t Cameron DaSilva of Rams Wire), SoFi Stadium may be too narrow to host the 2026 World Cup Final.
The report from The Times stated that the current setup of SoFi Stadium isn’t wide enough to meet FIFA’s regulations. The report added that the field would have to be expanded in width up to 63 feet.
SoFi Stadium officially opened its doors in 2020. It hosted Super Bowl 56 between the Rams and Bengals, with LA becoming the second team to play in (and win) a Super Bowl held inside their own venue. SoFi Stadium will also host this year’s highly-anticipated WWE WrestleMania 39 event that will run on Apr. 1-2.
The 2026 FIFA World Cup will be played in Canada, Mexico and the United States across 16 different venues.
The other NFL stadiums being used for the 2026 World Cup are AT&T Stadium (home of the Dallas Cowboys), Arrowhead Stadium (Kansas City Chiefs), MetLife Stadium (New York Giants and New York Jets), NRG Stadium (Houston Texans) Lincoln Financial Field (Philadelphia Eagles), Mercedes-Benz Stadium (Atlanta Falcons), Gillette Stadium (New England Patriots), Lumen Field (Seattle Seahawks), Levi’s Stadium (San Francisco 49ers) and Hard Rock Stadium (Miami Dolphins).
