It’s indeed a sad day for the world of soccer as Brazil legend Pele has passed away at the age of 82.

The former attacker is widely regarded as one of the best soccer players to ever grace a pitch and many tout him as the GOAT. Pele is often mentioned among greats such as Diego Maradona, as well as the current era’s Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo.

The deceased icon remains the only player to lift the World Cup on three occasions, having helped his nation win the prestigious trophy in 1958, 1962, and 1970.

A true innovator, Pele did the unthinkable with the ball at his feet and many of the intricate dribbling moves we see in today’s game were brought to the fore by him.

The World Of Soccer Mourns Pele

Tributes have been pouring in since the news of Pele’s death was announced on Thursday afternoon.

France and PSG star Kylian Mbappe wrote: “The king of football has left us” as the caption to a photo he took with the former Brazil star.

Brazil’s current No.10 Neymar also left a touching tribute.

2022 FIFA World Cup winner Messi posted a photo of himself and Pele to Instagram, wishing the legend a peaceful rest.

“My deep condolences to all of Brazil, and in particular to the family of Edson Arantes do Nascimento,” Ronaldo wrote on IG. “A mere “goodbye” to the eternal King Pelé will never be enough to express the pain that the entire football world is currently embracing. An inspiration to so many millions, a reference yesterday, today and forever.”
