The Drake Curse was in full effect ahead of the 2022 FIFA World Cup final on Sunday but Lionel Messi and Argentina were able to emerge from Qatar’s Lusail Stadium with the gold, despite the Canadian rapper picking them to win.

Drake is notorious for jinxing teams with his predictions, and even the wearing of their jerseys. So Argentina fans were likely expecting the worst when he revealed he was betting on La Albiceleste.

Argentina beat France to win their first World Cup since 1986, and the first of Messi’s career, but they needed to deal with two comebacks and a penalty shootout to get over the line.

Drake bet a cool mil on the match, so you’d think he’d be pleased with himself right now. However, that is not the case, although he bet on the winners.

Unfortunately for the artiste, he placed his wager in the 1X2 market, which meant Argentina would have to win during regulation in order for him to collect any winnings. As it turned out, the game went into extra time and then penalties, so Drizzy probably has “I’m Upset” from his 2018 album, Scorpion, on repeat.

Losing $1M would be easier to accept if France won but making a rare correct prediction and getting set back that far must sting.

The 36-year-old lost $1.5 million in November, having bet on Israel Adesanya to beat Alex Pereira. Adesanya surprisingly lost, giving even more credence to the notion that Drake is bad luck. But the rapper did make some bank on the Golden State Warriors winning the NBA Western Conference last season, so it’s not all bad.
