After Canelo Álvarez’s surprising loss to Dmitry Bivol via unanimous decision, social media exploded with memes. Mike Tyson took a different approach and analyzed what went wrong for the 31-year-old.

Tyson, present at the fight, pointed out that Álvarez’s jab was a key factor in his defeat. Using a punching bag, Tyson demonstrated his perspective.

According to Tyson, “If Canelo had utilized his jab effectively and forcefully, Bivol wouldn’t have been as aggressive. Bivol capitalized on Canelo’s lack of jabbing, becoming more confident and pressing forward. Without a solid jab, Canelo left himself vulnerable, allowing his opponent to close the distance easily.”

Tyson emphasized that Álvarez should have incorporated more movement while executing his jabs for better results.

“I believe that had he used his jab more strategically, the fight outcome might have been different.”

In Las Vegas, Canelo suffered the second loss of his professional career as Bivol successfully defended his WBA light heavyweight title, winning with a score of 115-113 on all three judges’ scorecards.

Canelo, a champion in four different weight classes, ventured into the light heavyweight division for only the second time in his career.

Post-fight, Canelo expressed his willingness for a rematch and acknowledged that he would have pursued a more aggressive strategy against Bivol if he had known he was behind on the scorecards.

“We are eager for a rematch and aim to perform better next time,” Canelo stated following his loss.

Canelo also raised concerns about judging, mentioning his defensive tactics of blocking and dodging punches, which might not have been fully acknowledged by the judges.
