Hope Solo, the former United States goalkeeper, has chosen to delay her induction into the National Soccer Hall of Fame as she addresses personal issues. Solo has revealed her decision to enroll in a residential alcohol treatment program.

The 40-year-old athlete was taken into custody in March following an incident where she was discovered unconscious in a vehicle with her twin sons also present. While it remains unclear if the children were her own, Solo shares 2-year-old twins with her husband, former NFL player Jerramy Stevens.

Solo has formally asked the National Soccer Hall of Fame to push back her induction ceremony by a year. In a statement, she stated, “I have reached out to the Hall of Fame and requested a deferment of my induction ceremony to 2023. I am choosing to seek support through an in-patient program to confront my struggles with alcohol. Presently, my primary focus is on my well-being, recovery, and caring for my family. I appreciate the understanding and support from the Hall of Fame regarding my decision.”

Regarding her recent legal troubles, Solo encountered a previous arrest in 2014 after an alleged altercation with two family members. The charges were eventually dismissed, only to be reintroduced briefly in 2018 before being dropped entirely.

During her time as the US Women’s National Soccer Team goalkeeper from 2000 to 2016, Solo contributed significantly to the team’s success, aiding in securing two Olympic gold medals and clinching the 2015 Women’s World Cup.
