Cain Velasquez is staying put for now.
The 39-year-old MMA legend faced allegations of attempting to murder Harry Goularte, a 43-year-old man suspected of sexually assaulting a family member of Velasquez. Goularte was reportedly accused of molesting Velasquez’s relative multiple times at a daycare center owned by his mother.
Goularte was initially granted home detention pending the electronic monitoring bracelet fitting. However, Velasquez opened fire on Goularte while on his way to receive the bracelet, leading to his arrest.
During his bail hearing scheduled for 9 am, the judge denied his release, resulting in Velasquez remaining in custody. His next court appearance is set for April 12.
Supporters, including those from the MMA community, have shown solidarity with Velasquez by wearing “Free Cain” t-shirts, contending that his actions were justified. If found guilty, Velasquez could face up to 20 years in prison.
