Tom Hoge was not a widely recognized name entering this year’s Pebble Beach Pro-Am. However, he outperformed several well-known players on Sunday to claim victory in a closely fought final round at the renowned California golf course.
Hoge was among seven players who led the leaderboard on an eventful day that initially seemed to belong to Jordan Spieth. The former tournament champion was in peak form and appeared poised for victory until Hoge staged a remarkable late surge. Spieth’s lone misstep, a bogey on the 17th hole, opened the door for Hoge.
Hoge delivered an impressive performance, nearly eagle-ing from the fairway on the 16th hole and then successfully birdieing the challenging par-three 17th. In the end, Hoge secured a two-shot win over Spieth, marking his first tour victory since joining the tour in 2015. Consequently, he earns a coveted entry to his first Master’s tournament in Augusta this year, along with a two-year exemption. A well-deserved achievement indeed!
