Mike Murphy, one of the two fans from Philadelphia ejected from the 76ers-Lakers game for taunting Carmelo Anthony, has been handed an indefinite ban from all future 76ers games at the Wells Fargo Center.
According to an ESPN report, a 76ers spokesperson shared that following an investigation conducted within the last 24 hours since the Sixers-Lakers game, the fan who singled out Carmelo Anthony has been banned indefinitely from attending any future 76ers games or events at the Wells Fargo Center. A tweet by Dave McMenamin also echoed this statement.
After the game, Carmelo Anthony confirmed a report from Yahoo Sports indicating that the fans repeatedly referred to him as “boy” during the game.
Speaking on the Angelo Cataldi and the Morning Team show on SportsRadio 94WIP in Philadelphia, Murphy claimed his remarks towards Anthony were not intended to be racially charged.
Describing the incident on the radio, Murphy recounted, “He comes down the court, we’re blowing [them] out in the game. I say to him, ‘You’re a little boy. Let him shoot. Let him shoot.’ He looked at me, he smiles. I think he goes down to the other end of the court. He comes back down … and I say, ‘Let him shoot. He’s a little boy.’ And he lost his cool out of nowhere.”
