Celebrating is fine, but when it leads to property damage, things can get serious.
Georgia football player William Mote, who plays as a long snapper, got a little carried away celebrating his team’s national championship win and ended up getting arrested. According to a report from the Athens Banner-Herald, Mote was taken into custody for breaking a window at a law office in downtown Athens.
The incident report stated that Mote, a redshirt sophomore, admitted to the police that he was drunk after drinking at a local bar, went to visit a friend, and mistakenly ended up at the law office.
He now faces a second-degree felony charge for causing damage exceeding $500. Mote was arrested but later released on a $1,300 bond.
Georgia ended a 40-year title drought by finishing the season with a 14-1 record and defeating Alabama 33-18 in the College Football Playoff National Championship Game last Monday.
While celebrations are expected to continue for a long time, it’s important to do so responsibly to avoid incidents like this in the future.
