The University of Utah is mourning the loss of quarterback Aaron Lowe, the second student-athlete to fall victim to gun violence in less than a year.

In the early hours of Sunday morning, Salt Lake City police confirmed Lowe’s death following a shooting at a house party. A female individual was also injured in the incident, though her identity has not been disclosed. As of now, no suspects have been apprehended in connection with the shooting.

Lowe, who was on a scholarship at the university, was part of the Utes football team. He played in honor of his late friend Ty Jordan, who tragically passed away from a gunshot wound in December the previous year in a case deemed accidental by authorities. Jordan had unintentionally shot himself and succumbed to his injuries in the hospital.

Utes coach Kyle Whittingham expressed his condolences: “Our hearts go out to Aaron’s loved ones and the other individual affected by this terrible tragedy. Aaron was not just a teammate but a treasured friend, brother, and son whose impact was felt by all who knew him. He will be dearly missed.”

Utah’s athletic director Mark Harlan shared that the university is providing support for Lowe’s family, friends, and all student-athletes within their sports programs during this challenging time.
