The New England Patriots are about to let go of their quarterback Cam Newton, as reported by Jim McBride, a move that took many by surprise. This decision paves the way for the first-round pick Mac Jones to take over as the starting quarterback.

Just a day ago, Newton seemed to have claimed the position as the No. 1 quarterback, but that turned out to be untrue. Newton had a challenging season in 2020, yet the team opted to bring him back on a one-year contract.

During the previous season, the 32-year-old played in 14 games for the Patriots. He completed 65.4 percent of his passes for 2,415 yards, with five touchdowns and 10 interceptions. Additionally, Newton rushed for 513 yards and scored 12 touchdowns, showcasing his dual-threat capabilities.
