After a lengthy wait, Lionel Messi has finally clinched a championship with the Argentina national team. While he has seen success and accolades with Barcelona, the 34-year-old forward scored a 1-0 triumph over Brazil on Saturday, leading him and his nation to victory in the Copa America tournament.
This victory marks Argentina’s first championship win in 28 years and halted Brazil’s unbeaten streak in the tournament. Prior to the final, Messi had scored four goals with five assists during the event, earning him the Golden Boot award. However, it was Angel di Maria who ultimately sealed the win by capitalizing on a defensive mistake to score a lob over Ederson, securing the victory for Argentina despite Brazil’s late attempts to equalize the score.
