Luka Doncic & Kristaps Porzingis: Differences and Discord?

Mark Cuban previously mentioned that Luka Doncic and Kristaps Porzingis have had some disagreements, likening it to Dirk Nowitzki and Jason Terry’s initial relationship: “When we first got Jet, Dirk was not a fan. Dirk did not like him.”

Porzingis seemed unaware of what the Mavericks owner was referencing: “I’ve never had any issues with my teammates off the court, I’ve always had good relationships with them.”

However, it seems that his statement wasn’t believed by anyone.

According to Tim MacMahon of ESPN:

“Porzingis and Luka do not have a good relationship.”

Porzingis, who has a max contract and cost the team multiple draft picks to be Luka’s sidekick, had a disappointing regular season performance and fared even worse in the playoffs. This led to the Dallas Mavs squandering a 2-0 lead and being knocked out by the Los Angeles Clippers.

Adding to the tension is Luka’s apparent reluctance to pass the ball to Kristaps, as observed in the following video.

Luka, aged 22, has been outstanding in his three NBA seasons, with averages of 25.7 points, 8.4 rebounds, and 7.7 assists per game throughout his career. He earned the Rookie of the Year title in 2018-19 and has been selected as an All-Star twice and a first-team All-NBA player twice as well.

On the other hand, Porzingis averaged 20.1 points, 8.9 rebounds, and 1.3 blocks per game in the regular season, but his playing time was limited to just 43 games.
