Conor McGregor has a habit of announcing his retirement from MMA and then making a comeback. After his most recent exit in June, the 32-year-old fighter is now gearing up to step back into the octagon in January.

McGregor has “retired” twice before, first in 2016 and then in 2019. His latest break from the sport was due to the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic, which made organizing UFC fights difficult.

Despite his time away, McGregor hinted at a potential matchup with Dustin Poirier. The fight is now scheduled for January 23, likely to take place in Abu Dhabi, with both fighters weighing in at 155lbs (70.3kg). In their last encounter in 2014, McGregor emerged victorious with a TKO.

In 2020, McGregor fought for a mere 40 seconds, securing a quick TKO victory over Donald Cerrone in a welterweight bout at UFC 246.

While McGregor has had significant periods of inactivity, he has managed to remain in the spotlight for his off-the-ring issues. One such incident occurred in November last year, where he faced backlash for punching an elderly man in a Dublin bar after the man declined a drink from him.
