The Wisconsin Badgers have been hit with a rise in COVID-19 cases, prompting the cancellation of their upcoming Saturday match against Purdue. This marks the second consecutive game cancellation for Wisconsin due to the surge in coronavirus cases.

On Tuesday, school officials revealed that there have been five new cases since Saturday, including three players and two staff members associated with the team. The total number of cases has now reached 27, with 15 players and 12 staffers affected.

The two canceled games will not be rescheduled, and all team activities are currently on hold until further notice.

The spike in cases originated after the Badgers’ season-opener against Illinois on October 24, where Wisconsin emerged victorious with a dominant 45-7 scoreline. Over the past week, 10 players and 11 staff members have tested positive for the virus.

Before this recent cancellation, the Badgers were previously unable to compete in their game against Nebraska on October 31. The announcement of the cancellation was made three days prior to the scheduled match, coinciding with the news of coach Paul Chryst contracting COVID-19.

A notable challenge faced by the team is the scheduling constraints of the Big Ten, as there are no allocated off weekends, complicating the rescheduling of postponed games.
