Floyd Mayweather is faced with yet another sorrowful event as a close individual has tragically passed away.
On Tuesday, reports emerged of the untimely death of boxer Danny Gonzalez, who was shot while attending a Labor Day picnic. According to TMZ Sports, the 22-year-old was spending time with his family when an assailant approached him and carried out the fatal shooting.
Floyd Mayweather had high expectations for Gonzalez when he signed him to Mayweather Promotions in 2016, when Gonzalez was just 18 years old.
Expressing deep sympathy, an official statement read, “We are very sad to report the tragic death of boxer Danny Gonzalez who was shot and killed during a Labor Day picnic. We send our deepest condolences and prayers to the Gonzalez family at this time.”
Following the tragic incident, WBC President Mauricio Sulaiman also commented on Gonzalez’s passing:
This unfortunate event compounds a series of tragedies for Mayweather this year, including the loss of his uncle and the mother of his children. Mayweather had praised Gonzalez for his remarkable amateur boxing record of 96-13 and referred to him as a “force to be reckoned with.”
