Confirmation from Los Angeles police has come in that the body found washed up on Venice Beach belongs to the former WWE star, Shad Gaspard. Reports indicate that Gaspard tragically lost his life after being caught in a riptide while swimming with his son.
Authorities were alerted early on Wednesday when a beachgoer spotted a body on the shore. In an official statement, the police identified the body as that of Gaspard and stated that his family had been informed of the heartbreaking news.
Gaspard and his 10-year-old son, Aryeh, were among a group of swimmers who found themselves in trouble due to strong currents while swimming off Venice Beach on Sunday. While Aryeh and others were rescued, Gaspard was last seen about 50 yards from the shore before being swept away.
The police report mentioned, “The lifeguard’s last visual of Mr. Shad Gaspard showed him being engulfed by a wave and pulled into the ocean.”
At the age of 39, Gaspard gained popularity in the WWE world as part of the tag team, Cryme Tyme, alongside JTG. After retiring from wrestling in 2010, Gaspard ventured into acting, with appearances in TV shows and films, such as the 2015 comedy “Get Hard” with Kevin Hart.
Dwayne Johnson, among many others, paid respects to Gaspard upon hearing the tragic news. Johnson tweeted, “Man, this is a tough one. A really tough one. Great guy.”
