The Green Bay Packers have a history of moving on from legendary quarterbacks when they believe the future of the franchise lies elsewhere.
Aaron Rodgers has been in a similar situation before when he took over from Bret Favre, and now, with the team drafting Jordan Love in the 2020 NFL Draft, he might be facing being replaced soon.
While Rodgers remains one of the top quarterbacks in the league, his age and the Packers’ future plans are raising questions about where he might end up if he doesn’t retire with Green Bay.
According to an anonymous NFL executive quoted by Mike Sando of The Athletic, the Las Vegas Raiders could be a strong contender for Rodgers in 2021:
“One exec wondered if the Raiders could be a prime destination for Aaron Rodgers next offseason, under the thinking that the Packers’ selection of Jordan Love in the first round could be the beginning of the end for Rodgers in Green Bay. The Raiders’ weaponry could be appealing to a quarterback accustomed to playing in recent years with a solid offensive line, but just one upper-tier wideout and nothing dynamic at tight end.”
Despite Rodgers being a fan of the San Francisco 49ers, having grown up in Northern California, he is familiar with the Raiders, who are now based in Las Vegas.
Should Derek Carr not meet expectations during the 2020 season, it is likely that the Raiders would at least consider the possibility of adding Aaron Rodgers to their roster.
