**James Dolan, the owner of the New York Knicks, has been confirmed to have coronavirus. According to a statement released by the team on Twitter, he is currently in self-isolation and is experiencing mild symptoms.**
“The Madison Square Garden Company’s Executive Chairman and CEO, James Dolan, has tested positive for coronavirus,” the tweet detailed. “He is currently self-isolating and his symptoms are mild. He is still actively managing the business operations.”
Dolan is notably the first professional sports team owner to have contracted the virus. Apart from the Knicks, he also owns the New York Rangers in the NHL, as well as various public venues like Radio City Music Hall, The Hulu Theatre, and the Chicago Theatre.
While all 50 states in the US now have reported cases of coronavirus, New York remains heavily affected with 52,000 positive cases and 700 fatalities. In comparison, Beijing has reported only 8 deaths, while Shanghai has seen 5 deaths due to the virus.
James Dolan has been a controversial figure within the Knicks’ recent history. Earlier in March, he had a public dispute with Spike Lee, a prominent fan of the team. He has also had disagreements with former player Charles Oakley, and some fans have even chanted “sell the team” at games during this season.
