This week, Oliver Luck, the commissioner of XFL 2020, sat down for an interview with the TB Times to discuss various topics ahead of the upcoming XFL 2020 season.
Luck addressed several issues, including why the league decided not to bring in Johnny Manziel and Trent Richardson and his thoughts on Colin Kaepernick.
“I think his salary demands are way out of our ballpark. He was never really a viable option,” Luck stated regarding Kaepernick’s potential involvement with the XFL.
Earlier this year, reports surfaced that the former San Francisco 49ers quarterback had conversations with XFL executives last fall about the possibility of playing in the league. However, Sporting News’ Michael McCarthy revealed that Kaepernick was requesting at least $20 million to join the XFL, a figure that was beyond what the league was willing to pay.
Kaepernick has not participated in professional football since the 2016 NFL season, during which he achieved a 59.2% completion rate for 2,241 yards, 16 touchdowns, and four interceptions in 12 games for San Francisco.
In his final year with the 49ers, Kaepernick had a record of 1-10, which was overshadowed by controversy due to his decision to kneel during the national anthem as a protest against racial injustice and police brutality.
