Amanda Anisimova, despite being young, had earned a seed for the US Open. However, the 17-year-old decided to withdraw from the tournament due to the sudden passing of her father, Konstantin.
Hailing from New Jersey with Russian roots, she has made a name for herself in tennis at a young age. Anisimova clinched the US Open girls’ title in 2017 as a junior and secured her first WTA title in April in Bogota, Colombia.
Her success continued with a semifinal appearance at the French Open in June, currently holding the 24th spot in the world rankings.
The family issued a statement expressing their shock and grief over the loss of their father. They also thanked everyone for the love and support during this difficult time, requesting privacy.
