The Tampa Bay Rays are considering playing some of their future baseball games in both St. Pete and Montreal following approval from Major League Baseball.
St. Petersburg Mayor Rick Kriseman has expressed strong opposition to this proposal stating, “Sharing the team with Montreal is not up for discussion,” he stated during a news conference. He expressed frustration with the prolonged indecision over the team’s future, particularly regarding the construction of a new stadium. Mayor Kriseman emphasized the need for a better solution and urged not to take the current situation too seriously, referring to it as just another step in ongoing negotiations.
The concerns stem from Tampa Bay’s poor attendance record and its challenges in providing sufficient support for a Major League Baseball team.
