New York Jets Fire General Manager Mike Maccagnan

The New York Jets have terminated the contract of General Manager Mike Maccagnan, who was initially appointed to the role in 2015. Jets CEO Christopher Johnson explained his decision, stating, “After careful consideration, I have decided that this move is in the best long-term interest of the Jets.”

Maccagnan played a key role in selecting starting quarterback Sam Darnold and Pro Bowl safety Jamal Adams. Johnson acknowledged Maccagnan’s contributions, mentioning, “Mike played a vital part in carrying out the organization’s strategic plans over the past four years, especially in recent months.” The Jets will now embark on a search for a new general manager.

Additionally, Brian Heimerdinger, the vice president of player personnel, has also been relieved of his duties. In the interim, Jets Head Coach Adam Gase will take on the role of acting general manager, as reported by ESPN.
