Trainers, owners, and representatives of Maximum Security are standing firm in their belief that their horse won the Kentucky Derby despite the controversial disqualification. The Kentucky Horse Racing Commission recently rejected the bay colt’s formal protest, as reported by Deadspin.
In response to the decision, AP Sports tweeted that the owners of Maximum Security are exploring legal options after their appeal was turned down by the state commission.
In a recent statement, Maximum Security’s owners reiterated their conviction, stating, “We firmly believe that our horse Maximum Security was the superior horse in the 145th Kentucky Derby. The evident victory on May 4th is clearly and unmistakably backed by the actual race footage.”
