During the recent World Cup Skeleton racing event, Martins Dukurs and Janine Flock emerged victorious in the men’s and women’s categories respectively. Dukurs achieved this feat for the 10th time, showcasing his consistent dominance in the sport. In contrast, Flock celebrated her first triumph representing her nation.
The competition saw South Korea’s Yun Sungbin clinching the second position in the men’s race, while Germany’s Axel Jungk secured the third spot. In the women’s event, Russia’s Nikitina finished as the runner-up, with Jacqueline Loelling of Germany taking the third spot.
Among the participants, Jane Channell from North Vancouver ranked 15th, Mirela Rahneva from Ottawa claimed the 13th spot, and Elisabeth Maier representing South Korea secured the fifth position in the women’s race. In the men’s race, David Greszczyszyn from Brampton finished 21st, and Kevin Boyer from Sherwood Park claimed the 18th position.
Martins Dukurs, a seasoned Skeleton racer, began his competitive journey in 1998. He boasts five world championship titles in men’s skeleton racing along with eight world cup victories. His brother is also a prominent figure in the sport, and together, they qualified for the Winter Olympics in 2010.
Janine Flock, born on July 25, 1989, hails from Austria. In 2015, she became the first Austrian woman to clinch the world cup title in skeleton racing. Renowned as the top female skeleton racer in her country, Flock secured the second position in the World Championships in 2016.
