Superross racing experienced a surge in popularity in 2015 when four-time champion Ryan Villopoto retired, paving the way for another champion, Ryan Dungey, to take the lead.

Despite the absence of these well-known champions in the sport, Supercross managed to attract even more fans and television viewers due to the emergence of a talented group of riders.

Director of operations at Feld Entertainment, Dave Prater, noted that the retirement of champions like Villopoto and Dungey initially raised concerns about filling the void they left, but the sport saw an increase in competitive balance with several new riders stepping up.

Following Dungey’s retirement, riders such as Jason Anderson, Eli Tomac, Ken Roczen, and Marvin Musquin have continued to carry the Supercross legacy forward. As the 2019 season kicked off in Anaheim, California, four highly skilled new riders joined the series.

Despite some setbacks like injuries requiring surgery, riders like Osborne, Hill, Plessinger, and Savatgy are anticipated to participate in the upcoming race at Angel Stadium.

Prater expressed his excitement about the upcoming season, highlighting the strong influx of rookies and predicting a transition period in the sport with new talents emerging.
