Miami has announced the hiring of Manny Diaz from Temple as the new head coach for their football team. Diaz will be taking over from the retiring coach Mark Richt.Having previously served as the defensive coordinator for Miami under Richt for three seasons, Diaz moved on to become the head coach at Temple on December 13th. Following Richt’s retirement announcement, Diaz expressed his interest in returning to Miami.
In a statement, Diaz expressed his deep connection to Miami, calling it his home and emphasizing his long-standing relationship with the University. Having worked at Miami for the past three years, he acknowledged the passion and commitment required to be a part of the Miami Hurricanes.
Diaz outlined his vision to elevate Miami’s college football program to national prominence through hard work and dedication. He praised Miami for its talented coaches and exceptional student-athletes.
Under Diaz’s leadership, Miami aims to reclaim its position among the nation’s top college football programs. Diaz had signed a five-year contract with Temple, which included a $4 million buyout clause if he decided to leave. Despite coaching at Temple, he returned to Miami last week to mentor the team in the New Era Pinstripe Bowl against Wisconsin.
