With the European winter bringing warm weather, the three-time ski-cross event that was postponed has finally been rescheduled. The World Cup season opener is now confirmed to take place on December 17, 2018.The International Ski Federation announced that the race, originally planned for December 11, will now be held under the night lights at Arosa’s Swiss Resort on December 17.

Additional World Cup events in Val Thoren, France from December 6 to 8, and Montafon, Austria from December 13 to 15, have also been affected. The FIS noted that conditions in the northern Alps have posed challenges. The World Cup races in Val d’Isere have been canceled due to insufficient snow. Organizers had scheduled downhill, combined, and super-G competitions from December 14 to 16, which were called off after an inspection by the International Ski Federation.

A lack of snow on the lower Oreiller-Killy course following a brief snowfall interval in November has led to the cancellations. The World Cup giant slalom and men’s slalom were expected to proceed on schedule, now set to be held on the Face de Bellevarde.Beyond the snow shortage, high temperatures and unfavorable weather forecasts have also played a role in the cancellation of the World Cup Val d’Isere events planned over three days.
