UFC fans worldwide are familiar with the challenging year experienced by featherweight champion Max Holloway. Holloway secured and defended the 145-pound title in 2017 but faced setbacks this year, missing out on competitions.
In April 2018, Holloway had to withdraw from a lightweight title fight with Khabib Nurmagomedov due to weight-related issues. Subsequently, in July, he was unable to defend his featherweight title against Brian Ortega in Las Vegas due to concussion symptoms.
As of now, the 26-year-old champion is gearing up for his title defense against Ortega at UFC 231 next week. Holloway anticipates inquiries about his health and, although he can’t fully explain the earlier issues, he remains optimistic about his well-being.
Holloway mentioned an ongoing investigation and explained his decision not to comment at this time. Both the Toronto commission and UFC have reviewed his medical records and given the green light, putting his concerns to rest.
Acknowledging the public’s concern for his health, Holloway expressed gratitude for his fans. He shared that his team conducted toxicology tests and hinted at the positive aspects of Vegas without delving into specifics.
