With the Heisman Trophy ceremony just around the corner in New York City, the consensus seems to be leaning towards Tua Tagovailoa of Alabama as the likely winner. Tagovailoa has had an impressive season as the quarterback for the Crimson Tide, throwing for 3,189 yards with a completion rate of about 70%, and an outstanding 36:2 touchdown to interception ratio. Alabama remains undefeated, dominating their opponents this season.

Tagovailoa’s statistics might have been even more impressive if he hadn’t sat out most fourth quarters of the games. However, in any other year, Kyler Murray from Oklahoma would have been a strong contender for the award. Murray has faced a weak defense, thrown for more yards and touchdowns than Tua, and has a similar completion rate. Additionally, Murray has rushed for 853 yards and scored 11 touchdowns.

Recently, Skip Bayless from FS1 endorsed Murray for the Heisman, arguing that he should be the frontrunner. While Bayless is known for his bold statements, this one seems particularly extreme. Murray is undoubtedly a worthy candidate for the Heisman and has been instrumental to his team’s success. It’s clear that both Murray and Tagovailoa are exceptional players, each with a strong case for the prestigious award.
