Neymar Jr. Might Face a Six-Year Jail Time

An assembly of three senior judges are going to hear the proceedings which are related to the complaint that was made against the Brazilian Footballer Neymar Jr and President of Barcelona Josep Maria Bartomeu by DIS, a Brazilian private football investment company that has its roots attached to the transfer of Neymar to the Barcelona club from Santos in the year 2013.

According to the reports published by EFE news agency, the judge Jose Maria Vazquez Honrubia intends to pass on the case from the national court to Audiencia Nacional Criminal Chamber. Audiencia Nacional is a higher and powerful judicial body. Reportedly the prosecutors are calling forward for more severe sanctions than already assigned prison time that the court of Vazquez Honrubia has handed down: five-year prison time.

The complaint made by DIS is based on fraud and corruption on the part of Bartomeu and Neymar which is related to the present move to Barca around five years ago by Paris Saint-Germain forward. DIS has also claimed that the complete cost of the transfer was allegedly hidden and was also prevented from completely being paid for their 40 per cent share in the ownership rights of the player.

The private football investment company had also claimed that they are entitled to more than €6.8 million which they reportedly received when Neymar made his move. All the parties involved in this transfer have denied any sort of wrongdoing. One of the Spanish high courts threw off the complaint of the cases back in 2016 even before a Barcelona’s provincial court had closed the proceedings in December of the same year after an agreement was reached by Barca between the Office of Public Prosecutor and the State Attorney’s Office. The Brazilian soccer star previously stood up for a trail in Brazil for evading taxes related to his income which he earned from his first club Santos and Barcelona.
