New York Mets and Oakland Athletics are discussing a trade involving Jeurys Familia

New York Mets and Oakland Athletics are working on Jeurys Familia trade

The New York Mets and the Oakland Athletics are currently in talks about a trade that would see relief pitcher Jeurys Familia joining the A’s to boost their already solid bullpen. Sources have revealed that the right-handed pitcher, Jeurys Familia, might soon be heading to Oakland. Familia would be joining rookie standout Lou Trivino and All-Star closer Blake Treinen, forming a formidable trio that could help the team in their playoff push. The Athletics are expected to give up a number of prospects in exchange.

However, neither team has officially confirmed the trade just yet, but it is expected to be finalized soon.

Before leaving the clubhouse, Familia expressed his feelings, saying, “I’ve had a great time here. It’s a tough situation, just waiting to see what happens.”

During the Mets’ game against the Yankees, manager Mickey Callaway received news of the potential trade. Despite this, Familia was not used in the game and remained on the bench in a sweatshirt while Robert Gsellman closed out the victory.

Familia, who ranks third in Mets history with 123 saves, would bring valuable closing experience to the Athletics. Throughout his career, he has maintained a 2.66 ERA with over one strikeout per inning, including 43 strikeouts in 40 2/3 innings this season.

The Mets had hoped that pitchers Familia, Anthony Swarzak, AJ Ramos, and Jerry Blevins would form a strong bullpen this season. However, Familia has been the most consistent and healthy of the group. Notably, he has excelled in July, pitching seven scoreless innings this month.

Callaway acknowledged Familia’s contributions, stating, “He has been a great asset to the organization. A wonderful person to have in the clubhouse and with the staff. He will be missed if he ends up leaving.”
