New Panthers Won’t Remove Jerry Richardson Statue from Outside Stadium: Report

New Panthers to keep the statue of Jerry Richardson outside of the stadium: Report

David Tepper recently became the new owner of the New Panthers and emphasized the importance of maintaining an open and safe work environment within the team. He confirmed that he intends to keep the 13-foot-high statue of Jerry Richardson, the team’s former owner and founder, outside the New Panther’s stadium.

Tepper mentioned that retaining Richardson’s statue outside the stadium was a condition he agreed to when he acquired ownership of the team. He assured that creating a comfortable environment for the team staff is a priority and he will strive to foster a workplace where everyone feels safe and part of a unified family.

Following reports of sexual and racial misconduct within the team, Richardson announced his decision to sell the team last December, a move later confirmed by the NFL. After a six-month investigation, the NFL imposed a $2.75 million fine on Richardson.

During a recent interview, Tepper acknowledged past issues but emphasized a focus on the present and future, ensuring that the current work environment will be open and transparent, with non-disclosure agreements in place. He stressed that while problems existed in the past, they are committed to moving forward positively.

The Richardson statue, constructed in 2016, depicts him holding a football between two panthers. Despite calls from fans to remove the statue, Tepper is planning to relocate the Panther’s practice center to South Carolina. Currently, the team practices in three fields near the downtown stadium. Additionally, Tepper will appoint a new president for the team to replace Danny Morrison.
