Before officially bringing DeMarcus Cousins on board, Golden State Warriors head coach Steve Kerr took the time to gather insights and information about the player. Recently, Alvin Gentry, the coach of the New Orleans Pelicans, revealed that he had discussions with Kerr regarding Cousins.
Gentry emphasized the importance of honesty in their conversations. He expressed his admiration for Cousins’ talent and desire to win. Gentry believes that possessing these qualities provides a solid foundation for success. Reflecting on their past collaboration and success with Cousins, he sent his best wishes to the player.
Having previously worked together, Alvin Gentry was an integral part of Steve Kerr’s coaching staff during the 2014-2015 season as an assistant when the Warriors secured their first championship. It comes as no surprise that the two coaches discussed the potential addition of Cousins to the team.
With Cousins now on board, the Golden State Warriors are set to field a starting lineup comprising five All-Stars from the previous season for the first time since the 1975-76 Boston Celtics. The lineup includes Stephen Curry, Draymond Green, Kevin Durant, Klay Thompson, and now DeMarcus Cousins.
Acknowledging Cousins’ skill and value, Gentry highlighted the center position as a key area of improvement for the team. He expressed confidence that if Cousins can recover fully from his Achilles injury and regain his fitness, he could become one of the best centers in the league while playing alongside exceptional teammates in a great team environment.
Currently undergoing rehabilitation for his torn Achilles, Cousins is expected to make his debut for the Warriors sometime between December and January.
