Brian Cashman Should Contemplate Trading Sonny Gray

Brian Cashman should consider removing Sonny Gray

In his pursuit of trade opportunities, Brian Cashman may need to consider reaching out to other team managers like Scott Perry of the Knicks or Sean Marks of the Nets. Although Cashman is experienced in baseball trades, he may now need to explore making deals similar to those in the NBA, where unwanted players are traded to balance salaries.

This leads us to the discussion about Sonny Gray.

After Sonny Gray’s poor performance against the Red Sox last Saturday, Cashman might be considering excluding Gray from his upcoming trade talks, even if it involves taking on another team’s underperforming player.

Cashman traded for Gray last July from the A’s for three prospects. However, after nearly eleven months, it’s no longer a secret that Gray has not been living up to expectations, especially against the Red Sox.

Following his disappointing outing, where he gave up six runs and seven hits in the Yankees’ 11-0 loss to the Red Sox, Gray’s record against Boston stands at 1-6 with a 6.98 ERA in eight starts. His performance against the Red Sox as a Yankee has been particularly dismal with four starts resulting in four defeats and a 9.35 ERA.

Gray commented, “That was embarrassing for me from the first inning on. I don’t know if ‘pressure’ is the right word, but it’s fun. I expect to come out and perform and make it fun.” He went on to say, “The way I’ve thrown the ball, I don’t think it’s been fun. I feel like we’re the best team in baseball four out of five days, and then I come out and do that.”
