Bill Keenist, the Vice President of Communication of the Detroit Lions, has resigned from the job. But he has stated that he will not leave the team. Because he will be appointed as the team historian, part of a big public relations department. In 1986, he started his career as the assistant director of public relations of the Detroit Lions.
The Lions chief of staff/assistance to the general manager, Kevin Anderson joined the team in 2016, during the same time Bob Quinn was hired Anderson worked closely with new coach Matt Patricia. Anderson worked with Quinn and Patricia in the New England Patriots’ football operation department for ten seasons. In the spring he was appointed as the chief of staff/head coach administration.
In May, the Detroit Lions Director of Football Communications, Matt Barnhart took his retirement. Now the team is looking for the new candidates who can be appointed in Barnhart post. As per the information, Keenist will begin his job, after the appointment of new public relations chief. Commenting on this, Keenist stated that it is a wonderful opportunity and is important to Mrs. Martha Firestone Ford and her family and also to the organization.
Talking about Keenist career, in 1981 he started his NFL career as the public relations assistant with Washington and worked with the team for three seasons. In 1984 he became the public relations director for the Pittsburgh Maulers of the USFL. Before the Lions, he was working as the sports public relations director for the Pittsburgh Civic Arena. Keenist is also known as one of the NFL’s longest-tenured public relations directors.
The Miami Dolphins public relations department head Harvey Greene worked for 25 years before moving to vice president of historical affairs in the year 2014. The Carolina Panthers’ communication director, Charlie Dayton is now appointed as director of historical and alumni affairs.
