The Virginia Football Program already had a major retooling in the secondary in 2018, and now, the school announced that the Hookies no longer have their CB Adonis Alexander on their team and also announced about junior college transfer of Jeremy Webb who suffered from a season-ending Achilles injury during the offseason workouts. This only makes it tougher for the Program, especially with the high=profile opener at Florida State.
Alexander announced on Friday via his Twitter handle that he was ruled out of the team on the grounds of being academically ineligible for the upcoming season and now has plans to enter the NFL supplemental draft in this summer. He has signed a contract with sports agency Select Sports Group. As of now, only one player has been selected in the draft over the past five years.
Alexander, who has missed three games earlier in his career due to suspensions, once because of marijuana, has finished his spring practice in April as a spectator while he concentrated on school. Justin Fuente, the head coach of the team said in a press release, “We wish Adonis the very best as he determines the next steps he wishes to pursue.”
Webb, a junior college transfer from ASA College located in Brooklyn, had come to Blacksburg just a few weeks ago to have a summer school session when he suffered from the Achilles injury. Webb owns a redshirt still and will have two years of eligibility when he comes back in form in the year 2019.
Fuente said, “While we share Jeremy’s disappointment that he will miss the 2018 season, our medical staff is confident that he will make a complete recovery. We look forward to Jeremy beginning the rehab process as soon as possible.”
