Mets place starter Noah Syndergaard on DL list with index finger injury

On Tuesday, the New York Mets have placed their ace starter Noah Syndergaard on the 10-day disabled list as he has a strained index finger on his pitching hand. The team announced that the starter was examined by the doctors on Tuesday at the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York after he experienced a sort of soreness in the right index finger. The result of the MRI scan showed that he had a ligament strain. The move of the Mets to place him on the DL is retroactive to Saturday.

On Tuesday, Mickey Callaway, the Mets manager said in Atlanta, “He threw a side yesterday, and that’s when he started noticing it, that was sore. He had some bruising at the base of his wrist, so we just said that he needs to get that checked out.”

Callaway further said that the starter had a little soreness in his finger after his last start and that he will now have to wear a splint to keep his finger immobilized. Callaway could not believe that Syndergaard would be missing so much of time. Callaway said, “Right now, the goal is to rest it a couple of days and give him a bullpen this weekend. After that, he should be all good.”

The disabled list for Syndergaard is the latest bad news for the Mets, who are already without many players like slugger Yoenis Cespedes, center field Juan Lagares, infielder Wilmer Flores, starting catcher Travis d’Arnaud among others.

Syndergaard was scheduled to play on Wednesday at the Atlanta Braves. However now, the Mets will have to start Jason Vargas now after just three days of rest, and after he lasted for just three innings in the earlier game on Saturday, Seth Lugo will now start the game on Thursday.
