Mets plan to send Ramos to New York for him to get his shoulder examined

In order to find solutions for two of their pitchers who are performing not at all good, the Mets have planned to send the team’s reliever AJ Ramos to New York in for him to get his right shoulder’s MRI scan done on Sunday and are considering options for their starter Jason Vargas.

Both the players have played poorly on Saturday in a game which resulted in a loss to the Brewers. After Ramos made three runs and recorded two outs, a day after he threw eight balls in nine pitches and walked in the winning run, he told the Mets trainer that he has tightness in his right shoulder.

This was the first time that the Mets had heard Ramos complaining of a physical injury. Mickey Callaway said that he considered it a strong possibility is given the Ramos’ 6.41 ERA and 1.63 WHIP.

After noting that Ramos worked through having a shoulder injury in the spring training, Callaway said, “We were wondering if that may be the case. He was struggling to throw the ball where he wanted to. I think that’s the first sign that something is going on with somebody.”

That accounts for a significant difference from the diagnosis Callaway had talked about before Ramos played on Saturday when he said that the issue Ramos suffered was related to his mental health. Callaway had said, “It’s working on his mindset. I don’t think he struggles with the ability to throw the ball in the zone when his mind is right. I’m sure he goes to the bullpen, he throws a strike whenever he wants.”

Assistant general manager John Ricco said the team is yet to make a decision regarding including Ramos in a potential disabled-list.

Vargas is not hurt. “Physically? No,” Ricco said. “Not that we’re aware of.”
