Mariners’ put Dee Gordon on a 10-day disabled list

The Seattle Mariners’ Dee Gordon has now joined the Robinson Cano in the 10-day disabled list just after he positioned himself at Cano’s place at the second base. On Tuesday, Seattle said that Gordon injured his right big toe first time in Toronto on May 9 and again injured it in Sunday’s game.

Manager Scott Servais said that the team had known the fact that Gordon is injured since he underwent an X-ray earlier in May and that discomfort during his play was quite visible on Sunday. Servais appreciated the fact that Gordon tried to play on Sunday, but the game surely was not working in his favor. Gordon’s disabled list stint is retroactive to Monday. After being recalled from Triple-A Tacoma, Infielder Daniel Vogelbach was later out into the No. 6 slot in the batting order as Seattle’s desired hitter.

Servais said that the team expects Gordon’s injury to heal soon on its own when he takes proper rest, and so the Mariners was Gordon to stay away from playing for some time. Gordon did not accompany the club to Oakland
Servais said, “With speed being such a big part of his game, I just think the best thing to do is to let that thing calm down.”

The Mariners had acquired Gordon from Miami during the offseason selection and shifted to center field. Later, he moved back to being an infielder after Cano injured his hand on May 13 after getting a hard hit by a pitch. Two days after the injury, Cano received an 80-day suspension as he tested positive in a drug test.

Servais said, “I don’t think it’s going to heal in nine or 10 days completely, but certainly calm down enough to the point where hopefully we can get him back sooner than later. As soon as the ten days are up, I hope to have him back out there with us.”
